Objects of unquestionable power, haunted artifacts that will bring about the end of the world, trinkets that will summon unspeakable hell… these are things that horror uses often. And that’s awesome.
Having an object that is a pivotal or central plot point is common in storytelling and is quite fun for horror stories and movies. A few notable ones include Hellraiser’s Lament Configuration, Evil Dead’s Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Ring, and The Monkey’s Paw of folklore and a short story by W.W. Jacobs.
