House of the Long Shadows (1983)

Synopsis

The movie House of the Long Shadows (1983) follows a writer who makes a bet to spend the night alone in a reportedly haunted Welsh manor in order to get inspiration for his next novel.

Writer Lionel Grisbane travels to the remote Grisbane manor in Wales to accept a bet to spend the night and get story ideas for his new book. On arrival, Lionel meets the eccentric Grisbane family who live there – Roderick, Lady Edith, Lady Agatha, and Lord Elijah.

The movie House of the Long Shadows (1983) depicts Lionel’s night in the manor becoming increasingly frightening as supernatural events occur, including encounters with ghosts. It seems the manor does indeed harbor dark secrets and hidden passages.

Lionel eventually realizes the Grisbane family members are slowly trying to drive him insane and take over his mind. As they become more hostile, Lionel fights back against their psychological torments. In the climax, the Grisbanes’ true evil motives are revealed before Lionel escapes the cursed manor.

The movie House of the Long Shadows (1983) concludes with Lionel surviving the night and the Writing his new novel based on the experience, using the frightening ordeal to resurrect his struggling career.

Trivia

This film marked the only time horror icons Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing all appeared together.

The movie is based on a novel called Seven Keys to Baldpate by author Earl Derr Biggers.
