Closely linked with the trope Familiar Places are Scary, this trope specifically refers to when your home is scary, usually haunted. This is different than That House is Scary, which refers to when there is a house that is scary or haunted in your neighborhood or elsewhere, but it isn’t the protagonist’s house.
In many haunted house movies and stories, it is a new home that is moved into. Other times it may become haunted because of the events of the story or when a new visitor arrives to uncover truths behind the location.
