Horror is fascinating. And like any genre, horror is complex.
No genre can be easily defined. Horror consists of many subgenres and those consist of many tropes that define the genre. They tie the genre together in many ways, and also make the films unique by implementing unique combinations of the tropes we have come to know well.
Scary Studies aims to document and dive deep into the many movies, series, stories, and art that are part of a rich history of horror. The horror genre characteristics and storytelling aspects that define the genre tells us a lot about why we love it so much. Along the way, we categorize them with the many diverse subgenres and tropes that exist, linking the many avenues the tropes have taken over the years.
